How can I change my booking?

Find out how to change your booking using our booking platform.

You can make changes to your booking using our booking platform. There are two options depending on what changes you want to make. This article will explain how to change your booking and outline what changes can be made using our booking platform.

Can I change my booking?

You can change your booking if the fare type you have purchased permits amendments. Your fare type will be stated on your booking confirmation email.

How to change your booking

Follow the below steps to change your booking using our booking platform. If you need help, contact us and click 'Talk to a person 👤' to connect with an agent:

  1. Log in to your booking via My Account or Manage my Booking. You will need the email address on your booking and either your password (via My Account) or your AFerry or Ferrysavers booking reference number (via Manage my Booking) to log in.

  2. Select 'Change Booking' and either 'Change Names and Vehicle Registration' or 'Change Booking Details'.

  3. Select or enter the new details and reselect or re-enter the details you want to keep the same.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions until you see the recalculated price or a message advising you that a quote has been requested.

    1. If you see the recalculated price: the online platform will display the new price of your booking if the changes are confirmed.

    2. If a quote has been requested: an agent will provide the recalculated price and you will receive an email when it is ready.

  5. If you agree with the recalculated price you will be prompted to make payment. When this is done we will confirm the change and send a new confirmation email to you.

What changes can I make to my booking?

Our booking platform offers two options when changing your booking; 'Change Names and Vehicle Registration' or 'Change Booking Details'.

Changing your booking with 'Change Names and Vehicle Registration'

You can use the Change Names and Vehicle Registration option if you want to make one of the following changes:

  • Change the passenger names on your booking

  • Change the vehicle registration on your booking

Sometimes the Change Names and Vehicle Registration option will not be available on your booking. However, you can use the Change Booking Details option instead.

Changing your booking with 'Change Booking Details'

You can use the Change Booking Details option to make any of the following changes, or if the Change Names and Vehicle Registration option is unavailable:

  • Change the passengers and pets on your booking: You can add or remove passengers and pets from your outbound or return journeys.

  • Change the passenger details on your booking: You can update a passenger's date of birth, age category, or their passport/ID card details.

  • Change or postpone your journey: You can change the date or time of travel, the outbound or return port, the direction of travel, or add/remove a return sailing.

  • Change your route: You can change your route of travel, providing that the new route is with the same ferry partner.

  • Change the vehicle details on your booking: You can update the vehicle dimensions, change the vehicle type, or add/remove a trailer, caravan, roof box, or bike rack.

  • Change the accommodation on your booking: You can add or remove cabins, reserved seats, lounge access and pet accommodation.

  • Change the meals on your booking: You can add or remove breakfast, lunch, dinner, full board, half board, and other onboard meal passes.

  • Change the extra services on your booking: You can add or remove priority vehicle boarding and disembarkation.


Frequently asked questions about changing your booking:

Why is the 'Change Booking' option not available on my booking?

The 'Change Booking' option will be unavailable on your booking if:

  • Check-in has opened or boarding has started for the sailing

  • The sailing has already departed or you have missed the sailing

  • You have travelled on the outbound sailing and you want to change the return sailing

  • The booking platform displays a message that your booking cannot be amended

  • Your booking has an amendment limit or is a non-amendable fare

If any of these situations apply to you then you should contact us and click 'Talk to a person 👤' to connect with an agent.

Can I change my booking to an open ticket if I don't know my new travel date?

Unless it is stated in their terms and conditions, ferry operators will not allow a booking to be converted to an open ticket. If you don't know your new travel date you can change your booking to a provisional future date and then change it again when your travel plans are finalised. Please note that any applicable amendment fees or fare increases will still apply if you change your booking to a provisional future date.

Why does my amendment not show on my booking confirmation?

Your booking confirmation will not show any amendments if you changed your booking by speaking with an AFerry or Ferrysavers agent. The booking confirmation will only show amendments if the change was made via My Account or Manage my Booking. You can request an updated booking confirmation from an agent.

Why does my amendment not show on the AFerry app?

If you have changed your booking by speaking with an AFerry or Ferrysavers agent then the AFerry app will not show the amendment. Amendments will show on the AFerry app if you have changed your booking via My Account or Manage my Booking.

What should I do if there's an error message when I use 'Change Names and Vehicle Registration'?

If there's an error message when you use 'Change Names and Vehicle Registration' you should either try the 'Change Booking Details' option or contact us and click 'Talk to a person 👤' to connect with an agent.

Can I change my booking with an agent if I have completed my outbound journey?

If you have completed your outbound journey and want to change your booking, you can contact an agent for assistance by clicking 'Talk to a person 👤'. However, if you are travelling with Irish Ferries or DFDS and you have completed your outbound journey, you will need to contact them directly to make any changes.
