Why Was My Reservation Canceled and What Happens to the Payment?

Overview

Understanding why your reservation was canceled and the associated payment implications is crucial for a hassle-free booking experience with AFerry. Common reasons for cancellations involve issues like duplicate bookings, invalid quotes, or unavailable ferry capacity. Below, we address these scenarios, explain the payment processes, and provide guidance to avoid such situations in the future.

Common Reasons for Reservation Cancellation

1. Duplicate Booking

In some cases, a reservation may be canceled if AFerry detects it as a duplicate of an already existing booking through another agency. For instance, if a reservation was confirmed elsewhere, AFerry cannot process an identical booking again. A full refund will be issued in such situations.

2. Expired Quotes

Bookings can also fail if made using an expired quote. To avoid cancellations, always complete the payment promptly when creating a reservation. If the quote is no longer valid by the time you attempt payment, AFerry cannot confirm the booking.

3. Fully Booked Ferry

When a ferry reaches full capacity, any new reservations for that sailing will be automatically canceled. No payment will be taken, although your bank may temporarily hold the amount. These holds are released automatically as soon as your bank processes the reversal.

4. Unsuccessful Booking Attempts

If a reservation attempt couldn't be completed, no charges were processed by AFerry. While the amount might appear as "pending" in your bank account, these funds will be reversed within five business days. For more information, contacting your bank will provide details about authorization reversals.

5. Incomplete Bookings and No Cancellation Message

If no reservation has been fully created, there is no cancellation notice sent. Without confirmation of booking, no reservation officially exists, and consequently, no cancellation communication is generated.

6. Automatic Cancellation of Unconfirmed Bookings

Unconfirmed reservations will be canceled automatically, and no payment will be taken. Funds temporarily held will be returned. Customers do not need to take further action apart from waiting for the bank's processing time.

Payment and Refund Guidelines

  1. No Successful Charges: If your booking was not completed or confirmed, no payment will be deducted by AFerry.

  2. Reversal of Pending Amounts: Any pending charges visible in your account were authorized but not processed as payments. These funds are typically released within 3-5 business days, depending on your bank's policies.

  3. Clear Refunds for Confirmed Billing: In the rare case where funds are taken before the cancellation, AFerry ensures a full refund to your original payment method.

Tips to Avoid Reservation Cancellations

  1. Begin your booking only when ready to complete payment promptly.

  2. Double-check for duplicate attempts, especially if using multiple agencies.

  3. Ensure that the selected ferry has availability to avoid automatic cancellations.
