How do I submit Advanced Passenger Information (API)?

Find out how to submit API for your booking

Written by Michael

If you're travelling with Brittany Ferries or Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, you must submit your API online at least 24 hours before departure.

Haven't submitted your API in advance? You may be able to provide your information at the port or tunnel, but this could cause delays to your journey.

Do I need to submit API online?

You must submit API online at least 24 hours before travel if you're travelling with either of the following partners:

  • Brittany Ferries

  • Eurotunnel Le Shuttle

For bookings with DFDS, P&O Ferries, Stena Line, and Irish Ferries, API is collected during check-in at the port. You don't need to submit it online in advance.

How do I submit API?

Before you start, make sure you have:

  • Your ferry partner's booking reference number

  • A passport or other eligible travel document for each passenger on your booking

Follow these steps:

  1. Open the relevant API form:

  2. Enter your ferry partner's booking reference number and the surname of the lead passenger.

  3. Complete the required details for each passenger. These may include:

    • Full name

    • Travel document number

    • Nationality

    • Country of issue

    • Document expiry date

    • Date of birth

    • Place of birth

  4. Review the information carefully and submit the form.

Remember to submit your API at least 24 hours before departure.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my API has been submitted successfully?

You should see an on-screen confirmation when your submission is successful.

If you're unsure whether your API has been submitted, access the relevant API form again to check its status. If you still need help, contact us through Intercom and select “Talk to a person” to speak to an agent.

Do I need to submit API again?

You may need to submit API again if:

  • You're travelling with different ferry partners on your outward and return journeys. You must complete the API process for each partner that requires online submission. For example, if you're travelling out with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle and returning with Brittany Ferries, you'll need to submit API to both.

  • You've added a passenger to your booking after submitting API. Return to the relevant API form and submit the new passenger's details.

I entered incorrect information. How can I correct it?

Contact us through Intercom and select “Talk to a person” to speak to an agent. We'll contact the ferry partner to ask how your details can be corrected.

Why aren't my details recognised by the API form?

If your details aren't recognised, check the following:

  • Booking reference: Make sure you're using your ferry partner's booking reference, not your AFerry/Ferrysavers booking reference.

  • Surname: Check that you've entered the lead passenger's surname correctly.

  • Special characters: If your surname contains accented characters, try entering the letters without the accents. For example, try a instead of ä.

If your details still aren't recognised, contact us for assistance.

What should I do if I can't submit API?

If you're having trouble submitting API, contact us through Intercom and select “Talk to a person” to speak to an agent. Have your ferry partner's booking reference ready so we can help you more quickly.

Remember that API must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure for Brittany Ferries and Eurotunnel Le Shuttle. If you miss this deadline, you may be able to provide your information at the port or tunnel, but this could delay your journey.
