What is ETIAS?

ETIAS is an upcoming visa-waiver program for non-EU travellers visiting the Schengen Area from visa-exempt countries.

When will ETIAS launch?

ETIAS is expected to launch between October and December 2026.

What is EES?

EES is an automated IT system which collects biometric data of travellers from non-EU countries each time they enter and exit the Schengen Area. It will be active from 12 October 2025.

You will be required to provide biometric data (your fingerprints and have your photo taken) the first time you travel to the Schengen Area from 12 October 2025. Your record will be valid for 3 years, meaning on future visits you will only need to provide a fingerprint and photo at the border.
