Summer 2026: Algeria Vehicle Restrictions

Algerian authorities have announced seasonal vehicle restrictions for summer 2026. If you are planning to travel to or from an Algerian port, make sure to review the rules in advance to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey.

The following vehicle restrictions will be in effect in Algeria from Monday 15 June 2026 until Tuesday 15 September 2026:

  • Panel vans and vans with windows, as well as those capable of transporting people but without passenger seats, are prohibited in both directions.

  • It is also prohibited to load goods and luggage on the roof of vans and passenger vehicles if they are being transported for commercial purposes. Roof boxes containing personal belongings for private or tourist travel are permitted.

  • The transport of all types of vehicles for export (cars and vans), new and less than 3 years old, is prohibited during the summer period only at the port of Algiers and is permitted at other secondary ports (Bejaia/Skikda).

  • Vehicles with more than 7 seats (vans and cars) that are not intended for export but are transporting large families consisting of at least one couple and one child are accepted.
